OBITUARY

Lloyd Harold “Smitty” Smith Sr., 75 of Scenery Hill died Tuesday December 1, 2015 in Kindred Hospital, Pittsburgh after battling a lengthy illness.
He was born December 24, 1939 in Beallsville, a son of the late W. Lloyd and Dorothy Bakewell Smith.
He graduated from Ellsworth High School 1958 before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1958-1964 and was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was employed as an overhead crane operator for Washington Steel Corp. in the Houston Melt Shop in Houston, PA for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 2002 and also owned and operated Smittys Water Hauling and cistern cleaning for 40 years.
He enjoyed spending time camping and fishing with friends in confluence, PA.
Mr. Smith was actively involved in both Scenery Hill and Beallsville-Centerville-Richeyville Lions Clubs devoting over 45 years between the two clubs. He served as President of both clubs as well as Zone Chairman and Regional Chairman, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a member of the Hancock-McCune-Horne American Legion Post #705 of Centerville for 23 years, a member of the Deemston Grange for 10 years, and a lifetime member of the Beallsville United Methodist Church.
On August 1, 1962 he married Nancy G. McDonald who survives. Also Surviving are two sons: Lloyd Harold “Smitty” Smith Jr. of Scenery Hill and Duane E. Smith of Omaha, NE, two grandsons Austin R. Smith of Richeyville and Evan L. Smith of Richeyville, two sisters Shirley Fowkes (James) of Richeyville, Betty Johns (Tom) of Washington and one brother James D. Smith of Scenery Hill.
Deceased in addition to his parents is a sister in law Shirley D. Smith.

Friends will be received from 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday and from 1:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00PM Friday in the Greenlee Funeral Home 2830 Main St. Beallsville, PA 15313 where funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday December 5, 2015 with Rev. Gary Gregg officiating. Interment will be in the Beallsville Cemetery. American Legion Services will be held in the funeral home, 6:30PM Thursday. Lions club services will be held in the funeral home 6:30PM Friday. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to Beallsville U.M. Church, P.O. Box 136 Beallsville, Pa. 15313 or the Centerville American Legion Post #705, 1101 Old Nat. Pike, Fredericktown, Pa. 15333.
